★ RESOLUTION

"Before Chinatown. Before The Shawshank Redemption. Before any great screenplay existed on paper — it existed on index cards."

Every writer knows the ritual. Cards spread across a table, a wall, a floor. Scenes rearranged until the structure finally clicks into place. It's the most natural way to think about story.

Final Draft buries this under a word processor. Milanote is a generic board that has no idea what a midpoint is. Scrivener requires a weekend to learn.

StoryBreak does one thing: gives you a corkboard that understands screenplay structure — beats, acts, character arcs — without getting in the way of the writing.

"The corkboard is where the movie lives before it becomes a script. Don't skip it."

Three steps.
No learning curve.

01

Open and name your project

Download one HTML file. Open it in any browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox — on laptop or iPad. No install. No account. Pick your structure template and name your project. You're working in thirty seconds.

02

Build your story card by card

Add scene cards, write what happens, drop in structural beat markers, tag characters, set statuses. Drag everything around until the structure feels right. Or paste in an existing script and let StoryBreak auto-detect your scenes and beats.

03

Export and write

When the structure clicks, export to Fountain and open in Final Draft, Highland, or WriterDuet. Or export a treatment, story bible, CSV, or plain text. Your corkboard becomes the roadmap for your first draft.

Built for how
writers actually think.

Not a word processor with a card view bolted on. Every feature exists to serve the structure of the story.

🃏

Virtual Index Cards

Each card holds a scene title, scene content, writer's notes, a status tag, and character labels. Everything you'd write on a physical card — plus search, filtering, and unlimited undo.

I wrote 80 cards.
Then the story changed.

I was breaking a feature — a non-linear story with three interlocking timelines. I did what writers do. Bought a pack of index cards, wrote one scene per card, spread them across every flat surface I could find, and started moving things around until the structure made sense.

It worked — until it didn't. I added a scene in Act Two and had to shift twenty cards. I moved a flashback and half the floor stopped making sense. I wanted to show my writing partner where we were and ended up texting a blurry photo of a table. And every time the story changed — which is always, because stories always change — I was on my knees rewriting cards I'd already written.

The problem wasn't the index card method. The problem was the cards were physical. I needed them to be dragable, editable, shareable — somewhere my writing partner and I could both look at the same board from wherever we were and actually work together on the structure.

I looked for that tool for a long time. Tried a lot of things. Nothing did exactly what a pile of cards on a table does — just without the table. So I built it myself. One file, no account, works anywhere. That's StoryBreak.
